The Use of TikTok Filter as an Interactive Instructional Medium to Improve Arabic Speaking Skill

Purpose - This study aims to examine the use of TikTok Filter as an interactive instructional medium to enhance Arabic speaking skill (maharah al-kalam) among eleventh-grade students of a public senior high school in Mojokerto.
Design/Methodology/Approach - This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. Two classes were purposively selected as the experimental group (n=31) and the control group (n=31). Data were collected through pretest-posttest, observation, and interview, and analyzed using validity and reliability testing, an independent sample t-test, and the N-Gain test.
Findings - The posttest mean score of the experimental group (89.45) was significantly higher than that of the control group (71.19), with t=12.679 and Sig. (2-tailed)=0.000<0.05. The N-Gain test showed 68.26% (fairly effective) for the experimental group compared to 23.42% (ineffective) for the control group, indicating that TikTok Filter is more effective than the conventional method in improving speaking skill.
Research Limitations/Implications - This study was limited to two classes at one school and one instructional topic (health); further research is recommended to extend the treatment duration, vary the topics, and compare TikTok Filter with other interactive media.
