Conflict of Interest

IJET (Indonesian Journal of English Teaching)

IJET (Indonesian Journal of English Teaching) is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. A conflict of interest may arise when the professional judgment or actions of an author, reviewer, or editor could be influenced, or reasonably perceived to be influenced, by personal, financial, professional, institutional, or other competing interests.

To safeguard the credibility and impartiality of its editorial decisions, IJET requires all authors, reviewers, and editors to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may affect the research, peer-review process, or publication of a manuscript.

1. Authors' Responsibilities

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their research or manuscript. Such relationships may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial support, research grants, sponsorships, or funding from organizations with an interest in the research outcomes.

  • Employment, consultancy, honoraria, paid expert testimony, or other financial relationships.

  • Personal, professional, or academic relationships that may influence the interpretation or presentation of research findings.

  • Institutional affiliations or competing academic interests that may affect the objectivity of the research.

  • Personal or professional commitments that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the manuscript.

Authors must include a Conflict of Interest Statement in their manuscript. If no competing interests exist, the following statement may be used:

“The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest that could have influenced the research, authorship, or publication of this manuscript.”

All authors are responsible for ensuring that the disclosure is accurate and complete. Any relevant conflict identified after submission must be reported promptly to the editorial office.

2. Reviewers' Responsibilities

Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment. They should decline to review a manuscript if their impartiality may be compromised by personal relationships, institutional affiliations, academic competition, financial interests, collaboration with the authors, or other circumstances that could influence their assessment.

Reviewers must maintain confidentiality, evaluate manuscripts objectively, and refrain from using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

3. Editors' Responsibilities

Editors must make editorial decisions based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and compliance with publication ethics. Editorial decisions must not be influenced by personal relationships, institutional affiliations, financial interests, commercial considerations, or other competing interests.

Editors who have a conflict of interest concerning a submitted manuscript must disclose it and withdraw from the editorial decision-making process. The manuscript will be assigned to an independent editor who can manage the review and decision fairly.

4. Management of Conflicts of Interest

When a conflict of interest is disclosed or identified, the editorial team will assess its nature and potential impact on the integrity of the publication process. Appropriate measures may include:

  • Requesting additional information or clarification from the individuals concerned.

  • Assigning an independent editor or reviewer.

  • Replacing a reviewer or editor when impartiality cannot be reasonably assured.

  • Requiring a disclosure statement or correction to the published article, where necessary.

  • Taking further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies if a conflict has been concealed or misrepresented.

The existence of a conflict of interest does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration. However, failure to disclose a relevant conflict may result in editorial action in accordance with the journal's policies.

5. Funding Disclosure

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for the research and manuscript preparation, including grant numbers where applicable. The role of the funding organization in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and decision to publish must be stated when relevant.

If the research received no external funding, authors should include the following statement:

“This research received no external funding.”

6. Post-Publication Disclosure

If a previously undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after publication, IJET will evaluate the matter and take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record. Depending on the circumstances, this may include publishing a correction, issuing an editorial statement, or initiating further action in accordance with the journal's correction and retraction policy.

IJET expects all authors, reviewers, and editors to uphold the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and academic integrity. Full and timely disclosure of competing interests is essential to maintaining readers' trust and the credibility of the journal.
