post-PublicationDiscussion

IJET (Indonesian Journal of English Teaching)

IJET (Indonesian Journal of English Teaching) recognizes post-publication discussion as an important part of scholarly communication and the continuous development of knowledge in English language teaching, English language learning, applied linguistics, and related fields. The journal encourages constructive academic dialogue regarding published articles to promote transparency, critical engagement, and the integrity of the scholarly record.

1. Purpose and Scope

Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for readers, researchers, educators, and other members of the academic community to respond to articles published in IJET. Such discussions may address theoretical perspectives, research methods, data interpretation, findings, conclusions, or the practical implications of published research.

IJET welcomes comments that offer substantive scholarly contributions, identify potential limitations, present alternative interpretations, or suggest directions for further research.

2. Submission of Comments

Readers who wish to submit comments on a published article may contact the editorial office or submit their contributions through the journal's designated submission system, subject to the journal's applicable procedures.

Submissions should:

  • Clearly identify the published article being discussed, including its title, author(s), publication year, and DOI or article URL, where available.

  • Present a clear, evidence-based, and academically relevant argument.

  • Use appropriate scholarly references to support claims and interpretations.

  • Maintain a respectful and professional tone.

  • Comply with the journal's publication ethics and originality requirements.

Comments must not contain defamatory statements, personal attacks, discriminatory language, unsupported allegations, or material that violates applicable ethical or legal standards.

3. Editorial Assessment and Review

All post-publication discussion submissions are subject to editorial assessment to determine their relevance, scholarly value, clarity, and compliance with the journal's policies. Where appropriate, the editor may request revisions or seek independent expert review.

The editor may decline submissions that fall outside the journal's scope, lack sufficient scholarly substance, duplicate existing discussions without meaningful contribution, or fail to meet ethical and editorial requirements.

Editorial decisions will be made fairly and independently, without undue influence from personal, institutional, or commercial interests.

4. Authors' Right of Response

When a comment raises substantive questions or concerns about a published article, the original author(s) may be invited to provide a response. IJET encourages a balanced exchange in which both the commentary and the response are evaluated according to the same standards of academic rigor, relevance, and professional conduct.

The original author(s) will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond. However, the journal cannot guarantee that a response will be submitted or published.

5. Publication of Discussions and Responses

Accepted comments and author responses may be published as separate contributions or linked to the original article, depending on the journal's editorial decision and publication system capabilities.

Where appropriate, the journal will provide clear bibliographic information and links between the original article, the post-publication comment, and the author's response to facilitate scholarly discussion and citation.

Publication of a comment or response does not necessarily imply that IJET or its editors endorse the opinions expressed.

6. Allegations of Errors or Research Misconduct

If a post-publication comment raises credible concerns about errors, questionable research practices, plagiarism, data integrity, ethical approval, or other forms of potential research misconduct, the editorial team will assess the concerns carefully and confidentially.

Where necessary, IJET may contact the authors or their affiliated institutions and request relevant explanations or supporting documentation. The journal will follow appropriate publication ethics procedures and may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction when warranted by the evidence and in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy.

Post-publication concerns will be handled objectively, giving relevant parties a fair opportunity to respond while protecting the integrity of the scholarly record.

7. Ethical Standards and Editorial Independence

All participants in post-publication discussion are expected to uphold standards of academic integrity, fairness, confidentiality where applicable, and respectful scholarly communication. Personal disagreements must not be used to undermine legitimate academic debate.

IJET reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, length, and compliance with editorial requirements, provided that such editing does not distort the author's intended meaning. Substantive changes may be returned to the contributor for approval.

8. Commitment to Scholarly Integrity

IJET is committed to facilitating open, constructive, and evidence-based discussion of published research. Post-publication discussion is intended to strengthen the quality of academic debate, support the correction of the scholarly record when necessary, and encourage continued advancement in English language teaching and related disciplines.

All post-publication discussions and responses will be handled in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and applicable standards of publication ethics.
